Hi All,
So it really isn’t everyday that Michell announce new turntables, the Iconic GyroDec is over 40 years old now and it has been updated over that time but you could argue that it is fundamentally the same turntable but when it is so right then there really is no need to make changes.
I used to own an Orbe for many years before launching HFL so I must admit that I do have a soft spot for Michell so when we were invited to a launch event in Stevenage for something new I jumped at the chance, even though it was such a long journey 😉
I thought we may see one new turntable but I certainly wasn’t expecting to see 2, so what was announced?
Michell Revolv
Firstly we have the brand new Revolv that sits in between the TecnoDec and Gyro, it comes in at £3995 without an arm or cartridge, so with a Michell T8 arm and Cusis E MC cartridge you are looking around £5,595 for the complete package, I have to say that I am really excited by this turntable as I think it looks stunning, minimal but it scream quality and the nod to the weights on the Gyro is a really cool touch, I can see one of these ending up in my 2nd system that I am putting together at home at the moment.
New 2025 Gyro
It is hard to think of a more iconic turntable that the brilliant GyroDec, launched in the early 1980’s and it still look and sounds incredible so the last thing I was expecting at this event was a new Gyro, man you have to be very brave to tamper with such an icon but I have to say that the team at Michell have nailed it.
Basically is is a ground up re-design but it is unquestionably still a Gyro, still with those classic timeless looks but totally re-engineered with todays technology, have to say it looks incredible in the metal, it has a more modern look, it just looks fresh.
Hearing all about the development of it makes you realise how much work has gone into both these turntables and how especially with the Gyro Michell have really moved things on with every part being re-designed from the new feet to the new Aluminium Chassis, new inverted bearing and Motor, this really is a totally new turntable.
Michell Factory Tour
As part of the launch event we were taken by bus just round the corner from the hotel to Michell’s factory which was great to see where all the action takes place and to see all the Michell products over the years from the first turntable, to their Preamp and Mono Blocks which looked very cool indeed but for me the most amazing thing to see what that Michel actually made C3PO’s eyes from Star Wars amongst other items for the likes of Boba Fett and others in the film, it was also great to see other film memorabilia on films that John Michell was also involved in like Clockwork Orange and 2001 Space Odyssey, just all very cool.
Upcoming Michell Open Day – December (date TBC)
We’ll have both of these in the shop very soon and we are planning a Michell open day for early December where you can have a good listen to both so please watch this space, hopefully we can sell vinyl on the day also like we have done in the past.
Any questions on either of these turntables please feel free to get in touch.
Regards,
Paul.
