Hi Everyone,
I just wanted to send out a quick message to everyone who came to our PMC 35th Anniversary celebrations over the 2 days to help make it such a brilliant event, as a lot of people told me that was one of the best we’ve ever done, if not the best, and I have to agree if I do say so myself.
But the star of the show was undoubtably our resident DJ for the event, Peter Thomas with his Reel to Reel machines and tapes, every single person that was in those sessions came out glowing saying they had never heard anything quite like that before so I personally want to say a huge thanks to Peter for sharing such a special experience with everyone.
It dawned on my on Saturday that in this day and age it is quite rare to have a first, especially in audio and HiFi, so it was a real pleasure to experience some incredible recordings on Reel to Reel for the 1st time with so many of the HFL Community, it was a very special moment that I am sure we will all be talking about for years to come.
I couldn’t squeeze in either of the sessions myself as they were so busy but I was lucky enough to get a session with Peter Saturday afternoon where I got to hear the Leo Sayer track everyone kept telling me about, followed by Wish You Were Here and a few tracks from Supertramps ‘Crime of the Century, actually just ordered the half speed master of this on vinyl to compare, and I can honestly say I have never heard dynamics like that before + the level or realism was uncanny not to mention the scale, depth and imaging, I know the source was only 1 part of a brilliant PMC/Bryston system but I have certainly never heard HiFI sound that real before.
I have heard it said many times before that good tapes played on Reel to Reel is as good as HiFi gets, I now understand and needless to say I am standing above the Reel 2 Reel rabbit hole looking in and it feels inevitable that I will be falling in very soon.
So thanks to everyone that came, Peter for being such a star and to Alister from PMC for helping get everything set up and help run the 2 days, that event is really going to take some beating, very special indeed.
