Hi All,
Now I love speakers, I have said many times they are my favourite part of the HiFi chain, if anyone has been to HFL recently they will know that we are over run with the things but even with more speakers than we need you can never have a closed mind, I wouldn’t have found some of my favourite speakers if that was the case, so when I was offered a chance to listen to Atlantis Lab speakers, even though the last thing we need is more speakers, I said why not but deep down I was thinking I’m sure it would be a polite thanks but no thanks, how wrong was I, I was blown away instantly and I really do think we have something very special here with Atlantis Labs Speakers.
Like me I’m sure a lot of you haven’t heard of Atlantis Labs speakers, they are a French company founded in 1998 by Eric Buy, so heading towards 30 years in business, they have to be the best kept secret in HiFi, or have I just had my head in the clouds, anyway in 2017 they teamed up with professional sound engineers resulting in their speakers being used in studios across the world, please see below for a great summary from Eric Buy himself –
‘The Studio, The Sound System, Hi-Fi
By working without compromise on these three sets of specifications, each universe has enriched the others: the alliance of professional components, the clarity of the studio, the energy of the stage and the sensitivity of high fidelity… with the single and ultimate goal: the maximum of emotion.’
Couldn’t have said it better myself.
So I have to speak about the price, the AT16 Pro is only £2,950, when you see and hear them that price really is ridiculous, they are such a great size, quite small but with a real presence thanks to the wood sides and leather front, they really do remind me of some early Sonus Fabers, they only come in one finish and have been designed with sound quality first and foremost but I think they are a really elegant design, it is not very often the words ‘HiFi’ and “Bargain’ are said in the same sentence but I really have never heard a speaker under £3,000 sound this good, it really is crazy.
What I really love is that we have done really well with DeVore Fidelity over the last few years and rightly so as they are very special, but Atlantis Labs remind me of the DeVore sound in so many ways but where DeVore now start at £11k our customers can now get that kind of sound for £2,950, exciting times ahead, the Atlantis speaker, much like DeVore, are really efficient which I have learnt over the last few years is a sound I really like.
So what is the Atlantis Labs sound? well as many of you will know I love my live music and these give you that front of stage real sound, very open, huge soundstage, great bass depth, very honest and truthful sound but extremely musical, we have been playing around with a few different amps with them and so far we have found that a fantastic match is Bel Canto, the 2 together just seem to project a big open airy sound, but with them being so efficient I can’t wait to get a 300B valve amp on them as I can see that being a magical combination.
2 Clever design features to mention, they have a bass driver at the rear which works in tandem with the front woofer to cancel cabinet vibrations, control resonances, and dramatically improve low-frequency speed, dynamics, and depth + they have a tuneable front port which you can adjust to help tune the bass to your room which I have just been playing with that makes a real difference to bass response and depth, all very clever.
I really believe these should cost twice as much, I still can’t figure out how Atlantis Labs make them for the money plus they have to ship them over from France, nothing makes sense but it is great news for our customers.
We will be holding an Atlantis open day in October as I can’t wait to see what people think, hopefully everyone is as impressed as me, watch this space for a date announcement soon.
Personally I’d love to hear the AT38, priced around £20k I would expect them to be very special, maybe we can get the AT38’s over here for the event.
In the meantime if you’d like to come in for a listen please fee free to get in touch to book an appointment.
Please find some pictures below, we should have the full range on our site soon but I just couldn’t wait to share this news.
Regards,
Paul.
