Hi Everyone,
Hope everyone is OK and enjoying this great summer we are having so far.
I’m excited by this announcement as when it comes to HiFi brands there are probably no more respected than Nagra so I am delighted to have now added them to our lineup of brands that we can now offer to our customers.
Established in 1951, so now in their 75th year, they are one of the founding fathers of HiFi as we know it today, if you look back at some of their earlier products you can see the same design ethos from back in the 50’s which is quite incredible. I’d say one of the most incredible facts about Nagra is that their compact tape recorder was actually chosen by the US Government to be taken on the Apollo space missions to the moon in the 60’s, surely that takes some beating in the HiFi bragging rights.
We have had a full Nagra system here for a few weeks now but I wanted to put it through it’s paces to really get to know it so we have been experimenting with many of our top speakers we have here to get a real feel for it’s presentation which has been really interesting.
Firstly it is built like nothing else, I can see a real pride of ownership if you had a full Nagra system, it really is HiFi jewellery, it has a smaller footprint than most but it just oozes quality in it’s construction and the feel of the dials and switches so it is a good start.
We have their Classic Line Pre/Power on demo along with their Compact Phono Stage / Streamer and PSU, I have to say that the Compact Streamer has already found a few homes with our customers, plugged into a DAC this is a really fantastic solution.
So how does it sound I hear you ask? well that is really interesting as firstly it works with every speaker we have partnered it with and where most HiFi has a presentation you can describe Nagra really gets the balance perfect, I can’t imagine anyone not liking the Nagra sound, it isn’t forward or bright or laid back and warm but somehow it walks the line perfectly so it is refined with no hard edges but is still dynamic and engaging with great transparency and insight, the midrange is organic and natural so vocals really do sound real and it images really, really well, so overall it really does take some beating.
Obvioulsy it isn’t going to be for everyone as we all have our preferences and there is a place for more forward or warm sounding kit but if you want an honest and natural sound then I would most certainly put Nagra on your demo list.
Please find a few pictures below from us testing a few speakers and a link to Nagra on our website below and if you’d like to come in for a demo and any point please feel free –
